About the Family

What started as 2 kids from Tuttle has turned into a not so perfect, sometimes messy, but usually full of laughter little family. After marriage we added a perfect a little basset hound, and an even better little baby girl. We love our real life!

Maggie Has Finally Arrived! (Well, she did about a month ago)

Maggie Ann Huff arrived on September 26th, 2011 at 7.53 pm.  Yes, I realize that was over a month ago, but this being at home with a newborn all day is tough stuff. :)  I figured it was finally time to post some pictures of our little girl on the blog since that was one of the original purposes.  To answer your first question, we have no idea where all that hair came from.

Maggie loved getting to meet all her grandparents, and my guess is that they loved getting to meet her too.

Her first month entailed lots of naps, baths, diapers changes, and of course quite a few tears.

And of course, Maggie got to meet her big sister Harlee.  They are both a little unsure of each other, but my guess is they will become best friends one day.  We are well on our way to one big happy family!

Meagans Birthday Lunch (and my first attempt at a Food Blog)

Today is Meagan's 27th birthday. I took the day off to so I could spend the day with her and Maggie before she goes back to work. For lunch we went to Utica Square to eat at one of our favorite restaurants, Wild Fork. Meagan loves their Chicken Fried Chicken. We don't get by there for lunch very often, and that is the only time the chicken fried chicken or steak is offered. You get two good sized chicken breasts, battered with a cornmeal breading with a side of mashed potatoes (at least that was Meag's choice).

I had one of the lunch specials, which was not on the menu. It was a beef sandwich on toasted Italian bread with carmalized onions, shredded brisket and a creamy horseradish. For a side I chose the jalapeƱo coleslaw. It was some of the best coleslaw I have ever eaten. I have never had spicy coleslaw, but it was amazing! The beef sandwich had just the right amount of sweet and salty, and the creamy horseradish held it all together (although it was a bit messy!). It was one of my favorite sandwiches. I just wish it was a permanent item on the menu.

We had a great time...including Maggie, although she didn't get to enjoy the food!

Here's Hoping

Tomorrow is officially my due date, and so far I have had absolutely NO signs of labor.  Zach and I have tried almost everything - walking, spicy food, sitting on a bouncy ball all evening - and NOTHING.  I've even cleaned the house hoping little Maggie will think I'm nesting and the house is ready for her.  Today we decided to get the third member of our family, Harlee, involved and play a little frisbee to see if that would get the party started.  When we let Harlee play with us, she tends to be a frisbee hog.

You wouldn't know it because she carries over 50lbs on legs that don't measure over a foot tall, but she is a quick little booger.

Zach finally caught her, but by that time we were done playing and just let Harlee have her way.  She isn't spoiled at all...

It doesn't look like playing frisbee is going to put me into labor, but it was fun to make some memories before our little family adds another member.

The Nursery - Before and After

Well, I am officially one week away from my due date and I think the nursery is almost done!  This room was formerly Zach's "Man Cave", so we had to clear it out and start from scratch.

We found the furniture we loved as a floor sample at a local furniture store, which meant two things - we got a GREAT deal on it and we got to take it home that day.  Big time score. :)

I had an old nightstand that I thought would fit perfectly in the nursery, and I also wanted a bookcase to keep toys and books in for our little girl.  I knew I would never be able to match the exact color of the wood on the crib and dresser, so we decided on this turquoise blue color that would compliment our color scheme.  Zach was put to work with a sander on the old nightsand and a cheap bookcase we bought at Walmart.

The bookcase was still a little bland, so we added fabric to the back to make it a little more interesting.

Now that all the furnitue is in place - time to see the finished product!

The only thing we are missing now is our litle baby girl!
